In the arid desert lands of Jordan, water is precious. In ancient times it was revered sacred and you will find many indications of this. The Nabataeans found ingenious ways to collect and store water. The Ummayads also collected water for daily life and for luxurious bath houses. Find out more about the desert’s history and discover hidden sources and unexpected areas of waterfalls and lush vegetation.

Day 1: Arrival

VenturAmana - Water in the Desert - Day 1You arrive in Amman at Queen Alia International Airport, where you finalise your visa and immigration entrance to Jordan, pass the passport registration area and collect your luggage. After that, our driver is waiting for you at the arrivals hall, holding a sign with your name. Our driver takes you to your hotel in Amman for the night.

Day 2: The Eastern Desert

Amana Tourism Services - Water in the desert - Rabba - Day2Today you explore the desert castles as you head east into Jordan’s main desert. You visit Qasr Amra and Qasr Azraq. Qusayr Amra was once a leisure resort for desert princes and contains a luxurious bathhouse; it is also a UNESCO World Heritage site. You visit the Azraq Oasis in the middle of the desert; it once covered a vast area and was an important watering hole for travelers, animals and birds alike. The communities in this part of Jordan include Chechens and Druze. You can enjoy a traditional lunch with a family from one of these communities to learn more about their unique culture and life in the desert. After your visit you can spend the night at an Azraq lodge or travel back to Amman for the night.

Day 3: Downtown Amman – Madaba

VenturAmana - Water in the Desert - Day 3In Jordan’s capital city of Amman, you start off your day with a visit to the Amman Citadel, where traces of civilizations that have occupied this hill can be seen dating back thousands of years. You walk down through the neighbourhood of Jabal Al Qalaa, where you experience the buzz of downtown Amman and you can have a traditional lunch at a local spot.

You spend the afternoon in the city of mosaics, Madaba, where you can visit the church of St. George and see the Byzantine mosaic map of the Holy Land that it houses. You stroll through the city centre before dinner. After dinner you can enjoy a traditional water-based hubbly bubbly.

Day 4: Waterfalls and spa time

VenturAmana - Water in the Desert - Day 4You spend a rejuvenating day at the Ma’in hot springs and the Luxury spa hotel located there. The hot springs and waterfalls are rich in minerals.

Day 5: Canyoning in the Jordan Valley

VenturAmana - Water in the Desert - Day 5After breakfast, you wind your way down to the Jordan Valley and drive along the Dead Sea to Wadi Mujib for a water-filled adventure. You can swim through pools, wade through the flowing waters of the narrow canyon and down natural slides. Afterwards you continue on to Wadi Feynan where you spend the night at the globally acclaimed candlelit Feynan eco-lodge.

Day 6: Nabataean water engineering

VenturAmana - Water in the Desert - Day 6You drive to Petra to visit the beautiful capital of the ancient Nabataean kingdom. There, you learn about their ingenious hydraulic system directing water to the city and their cisterns to store water throughout the desert. You climb to high places and learn how water was revered and used in rituals.

Day 7: The Red Desert

VenturAmana - Water in the Desert - Day 7Today you visit Wadi Rum to explore the mystical desert. You camel trek through the red sands to Lawrence’s Spring for a refreshing stop. You can explore the sand dunes and enjoy a traditional lunch at a Bedouin tent. Afterwards you travel to the Red Sea city of Aqaba.

Day 8: Red Sea

VenturAmana - Water in the Desert - Day 8At Jordan’s Red Sea resort of Aqaba you can enjoy sun, sand and sea. Visit the lovely coral reefs and explore them by glass boat, or take a boat trip to snorkel or dive.

Day 9: Red to Dead

VenturAmana - Water in the Desert - Day 10You spend a leisurely morning by the sea. After lunch you travel along the Dead Sea highway back to the lowest point on earth. You can catch the sunset over the Dead Sea, and spend the night at one of the luxury spa hotels that dot its salty shores.

Day 10: Relax

VenturAmana - Water in the Desert - Day 9You spend a full day enjoying the Dead Sea, where you can relax on the shores and in the water with its uniquely high concentration of salt and minerals.

After breakfast, our driver takes you back to Queen Alia International Airport for departure.
